The new women’s coach Henk Groener sees the numerous resignations from the handball national team is not a disadvantage for his work.
“That’s okay,” said the 57-year-old in an interview with the “Ruhr Nachrichten”. “If you can only bring 80 percent, for whatever reason, then you have lost nothing in the national team.” Previously, eight players had ended their careers in the national team after the disappointing knockout round at the home World Cup in December.
With his new team, Groener will contest his competitive debut on 21 March in the European Championship qualifier against Spain.
For a successful future, the women’s handball in Germany in his opinion should be much more professional. “If the women’s handball in Germany really wants to come forward, then you should start to take the women’s handball seriously,” said the Dutchman. “The players have to do everything they can to get to the top, they have to say: No matter if they are studying, training or working – handball must always be in the foreground.”
